# Intakes

> Intakes is an inventory and cost-accounting system for small businesses that sell physical goods, built around one question most inventory tools can't answer: what did this particular item cost, and what did selling it actually earn?

Who it's for
Online resellers and flippers who buy storage units, pallets, estate lots and thrift finds; makers who turn materials into products, such as candles, soap, clothing and woodwork; and small teams that keep stock in several places and need more than a spreadsheet.

How it works
Purchases: record what you bought and what you paid, including lots bought for one price before the contents are counted. Shipping, auction premiums, duty and other costs are shared across the items, and each item keeps its own cost from then on.
Stock: unique items are tracked one by one, with optional serial numbers; materials and identical goods are tracked as quantities by count, weight or length. Every item has a storage location, and every movement is recorded.
Production: recipes define what a product is made from, and work orders consume the materials, schedule the work by day and roll material, labor and overhead costs into each finished product.
Sales: connect eBay and Etsy and orders arrive automatically with the marketplace's own fees and tracking. Sales made elsewhere are recorded directly. Each sale reserves its stock so the same item can't sell twice, and returns put goods back or write them off.
Reports: profit and loss, profit by item, category, sales channel and source of purchase, slow-moving stock, inventory value on any date, and a year-end packet with Schedule C figures for your accountant. Expenses and business mileage are recorded alongside.

What sets it apart
Costs are never estimated. A figure that isn't known yet, such as a lot that's still being unpacked, is marked provisional rather than guessed, and it updates when the purchase is finalized. Corrections are built in: purchases can be reopened, sales walked back and stock written off with a reason, all with a full history of who changed what.

One plan at $49 per month per workspace, with every feature and unlimited users. It includes 1,000 items and 300 completed sales a month, with small per-unit charges beyond that, and a 90-day free trial with no card required. Existing inventory can be imported from a spreadsheet, and Intakes runs in any browser and installs on a phone.
