## Reviews

### "OnShape will impress." — 5.0/5

> **Jason** | *20 July 2026* | Farming | Recommendation rating: 10.0/10
>
> **Pros**: Ease of use, performance without the high dollar PC, massive assembly mate reduction, and never losing data.
>
> **Cons**: 3 Party add-ons vs built in features. Would really like to be able to add reference geometry in assemblies.
>
> I had heard of OnShape a few years ago and downloaded the app to my phone to briefly check it out. Being 20+ year SolidWorks user, I did pay much attention to it. After getting a chance to interview for a position at a company that was using it, I quickly went through the on-line tutorials in case I had to hit the ground running. I ended up get the position and was able to create over 1850 assemblies, parts, and drawings within a year. I've since created sheet metal parts, machined parts, injection/rotational molds, and 3D printer proto-types. I've created building and site layouts as well.

### "Revolutionary CAD" — 5.0/5

> **Victor** | *20 July 2026* | Facilities Services | Recommendation rating: 10.0/10
>
> **Pros**: It's cloud native, the pdm is native, I don't have to rebuild parts and assemblies all the time. I also can use git like versioning schemes, which is an industry first.
>
> **Cons**: I guess what it's also it's main strength: being completely run on the cloud, which requires an active internet connection.
>
> Overall we're very happy with, being able to finally implement a pdm tool and increase the collaboration between team members.

### "Works well, wish they hadn't done a bate-n-switch on small users" — 5.0/5

> **Zachary** | *18 October 2019* | Food Production | Recommendation rating: 8.0/10
>
> **Pros**: Really, REALLY slick web interface and mobile app. Designing parts and mechanisms from any computer, just wow\! Quickly sharing, very good version tracking - it's the real deal.
>
> **Cons**: They started out positioned very nicely for small-time users, 10 private documents, but switched to "public only" free documents at the same time as they aggressively pushed for subscriptions.
>
> It's still super impressive to me to pull up a model on mobile and show friends/customers how it looks, parts that move. The platform is great, just wish it was a little more generous like at the start.

### "Great for collaboration and easy document management" — 5.0/5

> **Verified Reviewer** | *21 July 2026* | Renewables & Environment | Recommendation rating: 9.0/10
>
> **Pros**: Document management is convenient in that if you move files around, it does not break assemblies. Revision history is very helpful and being able to revert to an older version or branch from a version is so useful. I love being able to collaborate with others in my organization within a document. I think I also prefer Onshape's mate connector system over the mating features in other CAD software I have used. Onshape support has been efficient and helpful in my experience whenever I have had any issues or questions.
>
> **Cons**: No feature to be able to bulk export files to have a non-cloud-based backup of files. Performance can be sluggish on occasion. I have not tried using the AI integration much, but when I have, it has not been particularly helpful.
>
> Since switching to Onshape over a year ago, it has quickly become my go to CAD platform thanks to its clean UI, easy document management, and great training resources and support. I have been very impressed with Onshape's performance, particularly as it is a cloud-based software. I also love that there is a free standard version that I can use for personal projects outside of work.

### "The Best CAD I’ve Used So Far" — 5.0/5

> **Gonçalo** | *24 July 2026* | Construction | Recommendation rating: 10.0/10
>
> **Pros**: Excellent performance and the ability to work from virtually any computer, including my 2012 Ubuntu Linux laptop. The interface feels very familiar to SolidWorks, making the transition easy. The cloud-based workflow, version control and collaboration features are fantastic. The support team is simply outstanding — they are knowledgeable, responsive and genuinely interested in helping users find the best workflow. Onshape is also evolving very quickly, with frequent improvements and new features.
>
> **Cons**: Very large imported models (especially SAT files with thousands of parts) can become difficult to manage and performance starts to degrade. Better tools for filtering and bulk-selecting parts (by name, appearance, metadata, etc.) would greatly improve workflows like mine. Importing and organizing large architectural models could also be more streamlined.
>
> My overall experience has been extremely positive. After using it intensively for several months on complex natural stone projects, I can honestly say it has become my preferred CAD platform.

There is still a learning curve, especially for advanced workflows such as Derived, Composite Parts and Master Models, but the Learning Center is excellent and the support team has been invaluable whenever I got stuck.

I also appreciate being able to switch seamlessly between my Mac mini at work and my old Ubuntu laptop at home without worrying about installations or licenses.

The main areas I would like to see improved are the management of very large imported models and the integration with 3Dconnexion devices on macOS. Although the SpaceMouse works well for navigation, application detection and command integration in browsers (especially Chromium-based browsers on macOS) could be much more reliable.
