# Secure Desk

Canonical: https://www.softwareadvice.co.nz/software/566518/Secure-Desk

> SecureDesk is a self-hosted, end-to-end encrypted remote support and device management platform built for organizations that need secure, reliable access to Windows devices without placing a third-party cloud provider in the middle of every session.

Designed for IT teams, MSPs, help desks, security-focused organizations, and businesses managing distributed Windows environments, SecureDesk supports both attended remote support and unattended device management from a single platform. Technicians can assist users in real time through one-time support sessions or securely connect to enrolled computers, servers, kiosks, and other Windows devices when no user is present.

Security is at the core of SecureDesk. During a session, the technician console and remote endpoint establish their own encryption keys using an ephemeral ECDH P-256 exchange and derive AES-256-GCM encryption keys for each direction. The self-hosted relay only pairs the endpoints and forwards encrypted data—it does not receive the session keys and cannot view screens, keystrokes, transferred files, or other session content. A six-digit verification code can also be compared between the technician and user to help detect man-in-the-middle interference.

SecureDesk uses an outbound-only connection model, eliminating the need to expose remote devices through inbound firewall rules, port forwarding, public IP addresses, or traditional VPN access. Both the technician and endpoint connect outbound to the organization's own relay, allowing organizations to maintain greater control over their remote support infrastructure.

For everyday help desk support, technicians can create a one-time session and provide the user with a secure link or session code. The user runs a portable Windows connector without requiring a permanent installation or administrator rights, and access ends when the session is closed.

For ongoing management, Windows devices can be enrolled for unattended access. The installed service runs from startup and allows authorized technicians to connect across login, lock, and reboot scenarios. SecureDesk also includes Backstage access, providing technicians with a SYSTEM-level Command Prompt or PowerShell session without taking control of the user's desktop. This allows IT teams to troubleshoot services, review logs, run administrative commands, and perform maintenance with minimal disruption.

Additional remote support capabilities include mouse and keyboard control, multi-monitor support, two-way clipboard access, secure file transfer with SHA-256 verification, chat, voice communication, session recording, and remote administrative elevation. Administrative credentials used for elevation remain on the target device and are not stored or transmitted to the SecureDesk portal.

SecureDesk also provides the administrative controls organizations need to manage remote access responsibly. Technician authentication supports TOTP as well as Microsoft Entra and Google SSO, while role-based access helps control what administrators, operators, and viewers can access. Audit capabilities provide visibility into remote support activity, and Business deployments can provide a white-labeled experience with company branding and custom code signing.

Because SecureDesk is self-hosted, organizations maintain control over the infrastructure responsible for coordinating their remote support sessions. It can be deployed on a Linux VM or through Docker, making it suitable for organizations that want the convenience of modern remote support without surrendering control of their environment to a third-party remote access cloud.

SecureDesk brings secure remote support, unattended device access, privileged troubleshooting, file transfer, communication, device management, and administrative oversight together in one platform—giving IT teams a practical alternative to traditional cloud-based remote support solutions while keeping security and control at the center of every connection.
