# Flowvault

> Flowvault is a browser-based encrypted notepad designed for secure note-taking without requiring user accounts or email addresses. It uses zero-knowledge encryption to protect private information, making it suitable for individuals and organizations handling sensitive data.

The notepad employs Argon2id password hashing and AES-256-GCM authenticated encryption to safeguard data. Multiple passwords can unlock separate notebooks within the same URL, enabling hidden volumes that are cryptographically indistinguishable from random data. It supports features such as multi-notebook tabs within password-protected workspaces, self-destructing encrypted links that expire after being accessed, and time-locked notes that remain encrypted until a specified future time using drand beacon technology. Encrypted backups can be downloaded as .fvault files, which preserve notebooks and hidden volumes without storing passwords. These backups allow for migration to self-hosted instances or restoration to new URLs. Users can also store vaults locally on their devices instead of using remote servers.

Flowvault is fully open-source, with public repositories for its frontend, Cloud Functions, Firestore security rules, and deployment configuration. It includes features such as optimistic concurrency controls to prevent data loss during simultaneous edits in multiple browser tabs, fixed-size ciphertext to reduce usage pattern analysis, and a trusted handover option that grants access to a designated beneficiary if the user does not check in within a set timeframe. All encryption and decryption processes occur client-side in the browser, ensuring that passwords and plaintext data are never transmitted to the server.
