The server includes a security framework with encryption-at-rest, transport security through DANE and MTA-STS and automatic TLS certificate provisioning. Its anti-spam system uses DMARC, DKIM and SPF authentication, along with statistical classifiers and phishing protection. Stalwart supports modern JMAP and legacy protocols such as IMAP4, POP3 and SMTP. It also provides collaboration tools such as calendar management, contact directories and file storage through CalDAV, CardDAV and WebDAV protocols.

Stalwart is built for scalability with features such as load balancing, fault tolerance and node autodiscovery. These features enable it to handle a large number of mailboxes. The system offers flexible configuration options through Sieve scripting and dynamic configuration rules, supporting various storage and authentication backends. It includes full-text search functionality across multiple languages.
