# CrewLAB

Canonical: https://www.softwareadvice.co.nz/software/534063/CrewLAB

> CrewLAB is coaching software for competitive swimming, rowing, and running teams. Built for head coaches, club directors, and program leaders running structured competitive programs — clubs, scholastic teams, college programs, and national teams. Trusted by 2,000+ teams and 20,000+ athletes across the US, New Zealand, the UK, and Canada.

The official coaching software partner of USA Swimming, USRowing, Rowing New Zealand, and Rowing Canada.

Who is CrewLAB for

CrewLAB fits programs that take competition seriously and want one app instead of seven. Most coaches we work with come to us running their teams on a mix of Slack or WhatsApp for messaging, Google Sheets for attendance, a separate registration tool for sign-ups, Stripe or PayPal for payments, and a fourth system for training data. The friction of four logins and four data sources eventually adds up to a problem big enough to fix. That's where CrewLAB tends to land.

We're not the right fit for recreational programs that mostly need a simple groupchat — TeamSnap or a basic team app handles that better. We're the right fit for competitive programs where coaches care about athlete development, team culture, and SafeSport compliance as much as logistics.

What Makes CrewLAB Different

Most team management software was built admin-first and added a coaches' app later. CrewLAB started from the coaches' side and added the admin layer once the coaching product was already working. That ordering shows up in how the product feels to use.

Specific differentiators:

1. SafeSport and MAAPP-aligned messaging is structural, not a feature you opt into. No private athlete-to-athlete DMs. Mandatory parent visibility on minor-athlete communications. Dual-adult oversight built in. Full audit trails on team channels.

2. Daily athlete wellness check-ins (mood, sleep, soreness) surface to coaches before practice starts — so the coach knows who to push and who to hold back before the session begins, not after.

3. Training journals with streaks and team leaderboards turn the journal into something competitive. Day 28 retention is higher than Day 7 retention — an unusually good engagement signal that competitive admin tools don't produce.

4. Registration and payments are part of the same product the coaches use every day. Athletes register, sign waivers, and pay through a CrewLAB-hosted flow. Stripe-powered payments with no platform fee on top of standard processing.

5. Built and maintained by working coaches. Founder Simon Hoadley is head coach at LA Lions Rowing. He uses the software his customers use, which keeps the product honest about what coaches actually need.

Pricing

Free tier available. Pro plan is $2,000 per year flat — unlimited athletes, unlimited coaches, no per-user fees. Payment processing runs through Stripe at standard rates.

Onboarding and Support

New customers get hands-on migration support including roster import, payment flow setup, and live coach training before the first practice in the new system. Live online training is available through season transitions. Documentation and video tutorials cover the full product. Email support is standard; priority email and chat support are included with the Pro plan.

For clubs switching from SportsEngine Motion, TeamUnify, PlayMetrics, or similar incumbents, CrewLAB's onboarding team handles the migration directly. We recommend timing the switch to your next registration cycle rather than mid-season.

Technical Details

Cloud-based SaaS. Web app for desktop. Native iOS and Android mobile apps. Integrates with Garmin, Apple Watch, Coros, and Concept2. Role-based permissions for coaches, athletes, parents, and administrators.

## Reviews

### "CrewLab has been a Game Changer\!" — 4.0/5

> **Verified Reviewer** | *26 May 2026* | Sports | Recommendation rating: 10.0/10
>
> **Pros**: It helps keep our team accountable, and all the information we need in one place\! Our team likes to use it, and we'll do anything that helps make erging more fun\!
>
> **Cons**: I wish we could assign workouts to specific lineups, or be able to remove just the coxswains for assignments. Something that streamlines the lineups feature and the workout/event feature
>
> My experience has been nothing but positive\! The team at CrewLab has always been receptive to our feedback and its been amazing to see the growth of the application (along with our growth because of it\!)

### "Hats off to CrewLAB\!" — 5.0/5

> **Tom** | *28 May 2026* | Sports | Recommendation rating: 10.0/10
>
> **Pros**: I like the fact that CrewLAB was created by rowing coaches and athletes whose goal is to make being part of a rowing program more enjoyable, effective, and efficient for current coaches and athletes.

I also like the fact that the athletes can post comments about how they are feeling mentally and physically each day upon completion of their workouts. It is interesting to see what they have to say because they seem to be more forthcoming with their comments using the app than in-person. The athletes look forward to seeing what each other has to say from day to day with regard to the workouts and it helps the coaches in planning workouts based on how the athletes are feeling from day to day and week to week. It has definitely enhanced our athletes' accountability to themselves and to the team. We have witnessed an improvement in team depth, moral and speed since introducing CrewLAB
>
> **Cons**: I wish that some of the CrewLAB features overlapped more with each other, for example being able to tag a lineup with video/workout review as opposed to having to tag each individual member of a lineup would streamline our daily processes .
>
> Our team's overall experience with CrewLAB has been very positive. Our coaching staff and athletes enjoy using it, appreciate its accessibility and ease of use, and have become a more tightly knit unit.

### "Loyal user since 2024\!" — 5.0/5

> **Isabel** | *3 June 2026* | Defense & Space | Recommendation rating: 10.0/10
>
> **Pros**: I first interacted with CrewLAB when my college rowing team started using it in fall 2024 (my junior fall). My team was struggling with retention and we were in need of something to help us gain morale and drive accountability. The ability to post workout reflections and photos as well as engage with my teammates’ posts immediately drew me to the platform. We were able to ditch the shared Google Drive “vid review” folder and consolidate video in the app. I noticed even more value as we entered our first off season. At the DIII level, coaches aren’t allowed to interact with athletes during the winter in any coaching capacity. This can obviously make it super challenging for athletes to stay accountable and bought in. CrewLAB was a great way for us to schedule captains practices and track attendance/progress. My team also took the Winter Wipeout and Summer Smasher challenges very seriously. It helped to keep the energy high and drive some healthy off-water competition. When I graduated, I was so sad to leave the college CrewLAB group. BUT I kept rowing after college and I was so excited when my post-collegiate team joined CrewLAB. I am such a fan and I cannot say enough good things.
>
> **Cons**: I have a Garmin and a WHOOP and I love how my Garmin automatically uploads my workouts to CrewLAB. One thing I’d really like to see is that type of integration with WHOOP. I use my WHOOP for lifting in particular and it would be easier to not manually upload data.
>
> Again, I cannot say enough good things about CrewLAB\!\! This platform helped my team to get back on its feet and I am so glad I get to keep using it\!

### "Must have product for rowing teams." — 5.0/5

> **Patrick** | *20 May 2026* | Sports | Recommendation rating: 10.0/10
>
> **Pros**: Product support from they guys at CrewLab is second to none. Super easy to get a hold of the guys for suggestions or questions about the product.

The platform has been revolutionary to how we organize and manage our team.
>
> **Cons**: CrewLab works exactly the way we need it to. A few little things would be nice like timestamps on attendance reports, but other than that very pleased.
>
> Exceptional and program changing. A piece of software that can help steer culture in a program, while also making the staff's job easier.

### "The ultimate platform for team growth and development" — 5.0/5

> **Aaron** | *8 July 2026* | Sports | Recommendation rating: 10.0/10
>
> **Pros**: The various features and metrics that allow coaches and athletes to engage with each other on a deeper level.
>
> **Cons**: Nothing, the app is intuitive and helps create an environment centered around training and teamwork.
>
> It has given me (the coach) a better foundation to teach and reinforce good behavior and culture with all members of my team. Not only can we more effectively coach technique and training standards, but we also keep everyone organized with practice scheduling and chat rooms. All of this is communicated quickly and clearly to our athletes.
