# LOGINventory

Canonical: https://www.softwareadvice.co.nz/software/503719/LOGINventory

> IT departments usually know roughly what they have. The trouble starts with the detail: which laptop is with which employee, whether a server still runs an operating system that stopped getting patches, how many copies of a product are installed against how many were bought, and where the evidence is when an auditor asks. LOGINventory answers those questions from one continuously updated inventory.

The software has been developed in Munich by Schmidt's LOGIN since 2002 and is used by more than 13,000 users, in environments from a few dozen assets up to 50,000. It runs on-premises. Inventory data stays on the customer's own infrastructure, which matters in healthcare, public administration and finance.

Collection starts without agents. The server reaches devices over protocols that are already open in most networks: WMI for Windows, SSH for Linux, SNMP for switches, routers and printers. Nothing is rolled out to endpoints, so there is no deployment wave and no update cascade. Initial setup takes under 30 minutes. Where a central server cannot reach, other routes exist. A lightweight scanner on one Windows machine per site covers separate subnets and syncs back into the same platform. Laptops outside the network collect their own data with an installed agent or a logon script and report when they reconnect. Anything without a network interface can be recorded by hand. Active Directory, vSphere, Azure and structured imports add to the same database.

What accumulates there is detailed: up to 1,117 values per asset, covering hardware down to serial number and warranty, installed software with version and patch level, configuration such as firewall and antivirus state, and permissions including shares and directory groups. Because it is one model rather than several tools, a license can be traced to a device, a device to a location, a change to a date.

From that base, teams run network inventory with a topology diagram generated from scan data rather than drawn by hand, license management that shows over- and under-licensing side by side and typically cuts license costs by 20 to 30 percent, IT documentation produced from templates including ISO 27001 and GDPR sets, and vulnerability management that ranks CVE findings by the actual environment instead of a generic score. One customer with 8,500 devices reduced weekly vulnerability analysis from 30 hours to 2. A manufacturer with around 600 assets replaced a three-week annual stocktake that occupied two people; the count now runs on its own, saving roughly 240 hours a year.

Assets can also be tracked physically. Every record can be printed as a QR code label. Scanning it on a phone opens the asset page, where handover and return are signed on the screen and stored against both the device and the person. Maintenance and repairs go in as dated lifecycle entries. Items that never appear on the network, from headsets to keys, are recorded the same way.

Licensing is per asset and year from 25 assets, from 3.70 EUR per asset in the largest environments and 6.50 EUR in the entry tier, so a minimum of 162.50 EUR a year. The SAM Edition with license management runs from 4.70 to 8.60 EUR. Peripherals are licensed as add-on assets. A 30-day trial covers the whole network; a free version handles up to 20 devices.

## About the vendor

- **Company**: Schmidt’s LOGIN

## Commercial Context

- **Starting Price**: €3.70
- **Pricing model**: Usage Based (Free version available) (Free Trial)
- **Pricing Details**: LOGINventory uses a scalable per-asset pricing model based on the number of managed IT assets. Each discovered or manually created device counts as one asset: clients, servers, virtual machines, network devices, printers and cloud resources.

Licensing runs per asset and year, with a minimum of 25 assets. The price per asset falls as the environment grows. Two editions are available. The Inventory Edition covers discovery, network inventory and IT documentation and runs from 3.70 EUR per asset and year in large environments up to 6.50 EUR in the entry tier. The SAM Edition adds software license management and runs from 4.70 to 8.60 EUR.

The 3.70 and 4.70 EUR rates apply from 2,500 assets. At the 25-asset minimum, a year costs 162.50 EUR for the Inventory Edition and 215.00 EUR for the SAM Edition. Intermediate tiers sit between those figures; the calculator on loginventory.de returns the exact price for a given asset count.

Peripherals and non-networked items such as monitors, headsets, docking stations and keys are licensed separately as add-on assets, in blocks of 100.

A trial license covers the entire network for 30 days with no asset limit. A permanently free version handles up to 20 devices and needs no license key. Multi-tenant management and individual volume tiers are quoted on request.
