### "BQE Core - no longer a suitable project management software for engineering companies" — 2.0/5

> **Pros**: We are a small engineering consulting from Vancouver, Canada, five years ago we were looking for a project management software that was compatible with QB. We came across BQE Core and we liked the pricing, the flexibility and most importantly the fact that was specifically geared towards the engineering and construction industry. We have very lengthy projects that could take years to conclude and get very often divided and subdivided into many phases. BQE Core allowed us to organize our projects and to facilitate the time tracking and recording into the right phase. It did have some features that we thought were great, like the invoicing which I still think works very well, and the easy synchronization with QB. In addition, the fact that we could easily and quickly connect with customer support, made things very easy when we were learning how to use the program.  In general, customer support is great.

> **Cons**: BQE is not the most stable software, there is a speed problem, very often we find that we think we have saved to find out that our entries are not there, or we have to create the project all over again.  This has improved over the years, but it still needs work.  It is particularly bad on Monday mornings when the employees are trying to complete their timecards from the week before. From the beginning we found that BQE was very much geared to the US market, which made it tricky when it came to set up taxation here in Canada. This is one of the reasons we keep our accounting software separate and synced our projects and billing at the end of the month.

> The first two years with BQE were great, we felt it was good value for the money, we arranged with them to customize some reports and invoice templates. We thought we had made the right choice. The last two years the prices have gone through the roof. Customization is no longer affordable. Customer service is still great, although there are new people that I feel need better training before they are put on the job. But what has been a major headache for us is the fact that at one point at the end of 2025, BQE changed all the drop-down menus, adding additional information into the window. As an example, when we are now trying to decide which project and phase we want to select, we are faced with a list that compresses information like client, project manager, etc, which is not relevant to our selection. Because of space constrains, we no longer can see the full text of the projects and phases,  which makes it very difficult to figure out which phase we want to select.   We have requested the company to fix this issue, their response has been that we need to change our project phasing system and make our headings shorter.

> **Cons**: Honestly I don't have an issue with it at all.  We got the product BillQuick first and then went online to Core, which was a blessing because a couple of months later the pandemic hit and we were all homebound.

> Excellent - their people know the product, when you call with an issue you SPEAK to someone who is knowledgeable.  They answer the phone which is such a great thing
