From the very beginning the customer support was exceptional. I was worried about leaving my existing expensive desktop program I had been using for years, but after talking with customer support I found there was no downside. I was able to start with Patriot, set up my accounts and use it for 30 days to see if it was a good fit before I cancelled my existing program. Every component of the program worked perfectly for me from invoicing my clients, receiving payments through their online payment program and duplicating my expenses and revenue accounts. I was concerned about the financial management program which I rely on for making my tax preparation easy. After 30 days I was able to reconcile my account easily and saw that every feature I needed to run my small business was included. Their security features for the Patriot Software, along with the Value for the money was more then I expected. Thank you Patriot Software Team for a great program and customer support. After using QuickBooks for over 20 years, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Patriot Accounting offered everything my small business needed: exceptional customer service, reasonable pricing, and an attractive, intuitive online platform. > > **Cons**: The software has two major limitations for a service business. First, it cannot accept deposits or progress payments for a job; payments can only be made against an existing invoice. While this might not be a problem for some, it created significant issues for me. Once a payment is applied to an invoice, the invoice is "locked" and cannot be modified. This restriction becomes problematic when a customer wants to add or remove a service from their project, or if I want to apply a discount for any reason. The workaround suggested by Patriot—using a journal entry to receive payments (to a bank account but not directly to a customer) and later deleting this journal entry to apply the payment to an invoice created at the end of the job—is completely impractical. The payment and the final invoice would often occur in different years and accounts receivable reports would become meaningless. > > As I said, the customer experience was great. I was disappointed to have to move on. These limitations may not impact other businesses, and I would gladly return to Patriot Accounting if these issues are addressed.
