A Versatile and User-Friendly Diagramming Tool

"I've been using Gliffy for a few years now, and overall I've been really impressed with its versatility and ease of use. The drag-and-drop interface makes it easy to create diagrams quickly, and there are a wide range of diagram types available, which is helpful when I need to create different types of visualizations. I also appreciate the ability to customize the colors and fonts, which helps me to create diagrams that fit my specific needs and preferences. One downside is that it can take some time to learn all of the features and options, and the free version has some limitations, which may be a consideration for some users. However, I've found the collaboration features to be really helpful when working on group projects, and I've been able to integrate it with other tools such as Jira and Confluence. Overall, I would definitely recommend Gliffy to others looking for a powerful and user-friendly diagramming tool."

Pros

Easy to use drag-and-drop interface.Wide range of diagram types available.Customizable with a variety of colors, fonts, and shapes.Integrates with other tools such as Atlassian's Jira and Confluence.Offers collaboration features for real-time teamwork.

Cons

May have a learning curve for new users.Free version has limited features. Some users may find the number of features and options overwhelming.Limited options for importing and exporting data.No mobile app, which may limit its accessibility for some users.

A basic tool to perform UX wireframe, diagram related work

Overall my experience with Gliffy is an average. I hope they can add more features which are available with the other tools in the market. There are some great features and there are some picky stuff which can be relooked for better user experience.

Pros

Not much but, I like couple of things like the option from the left panel to add more shapes. This is really a good addition to the tool and the expand and collapse of the left panel is great feature. When we want a room to work on the board we can collapse the left panel and expand it when ever it's required. along with that the resource option which is there in the bottom right corner also a good feature. When there is a new feature enabled, we can have a quick glance to check from there.

Cons

The connector tool has a wired behavior some times. After adding the shape, I am not able to add the connectors. I have to click on some other shape in the left pane and then I need to re-select the connectors. This is really frustrating some time. Also the free/trial version if they can share all the features or more features, users can check it out and evaluate the product if they can use it or not, instead of go for a paid version to check all the features.

Great balance of features

When many of my colleagues are struggling with PowerPoint or trying to remember how to use Visio, I quickly throw together a process diagram that I can share with engineering or other stakeholders. It's quick and easy to use and solves my problems.

Pros

Chrome app so it's light weight and easy to install. Good balance of features on the free version. Doesn't try to do too much in terms of icons and options - it's the perfect tool if you want to do a process diagram and UML document.

Cons

Could benefit from more options with connectors (arrows or direction of flow). The text placement on the diagram elements are not always ideal and can cut off other parts of the diagram. Better file management.

Alternatives Considered

Reasons for Choosing Gliffy

Cons

Needed more customization options for my diagrams and found that Gliffy’s options were somewhat limited, which restricted how detailed I could make my diagrams.

Pros

I also like how simple and friendly the user interface looks. The drag and drop feature is so easy to use that anyone can actually use this application without difficulty.

Cons

Though there's a free version, I don't think that's adequate for my needs. That means paying a monthly fee to use the paid version. And it's not really cheap, especially for individual users.

My go-to for all flow diagrams

Pros

Favourite Confluence plugin.
I use this extensively at work. It has just about everything for creating diagrams - flowcharts, floorplans, electrical diagrams, rack diagrams e.t.c. I think it rivals (maybe even supersede) Visio.

Cons

Bug!!! Something does not like Google Chrome. Usually this is fixed on the next release of either Chrome, Gliffy plugin or Confluence. Does not cause problems, just an annoying pop up to report the issue.

Great online diagram creation tool

Gliffy has been a great addition to our organization as it is being used by several department and practice groups to diagram processes, as well as organization charts, and technical documentation. It is easy to administer, and simple to learn with

Pros

Gliffy's strongest feature is its drag and drop functionality. Coupled with an easy to use interface, the average user can master process mapping in no time.

A key feature for our organization has been Gliffy's integration into Confluence which allows us to easily build and link pages and spaces with visualization. Further, Gliffy

Cons

Gliffy meets all of our business needs, however, it isn't robust as some other alternatives (i.e. Visio, Lucidchart), however for cost, ease of use, and integration into our other tools it more then makes up for some losses in more specified requirements.

Diagram the right way

My overall experience has been great over the years. Being able to mock up diagrams for multiple platforms. Mainly AWS, but even local network diagrams has been easy and accurate for getting the point across.

Pros

I love the fact that their is endless documentation for this. We mainly use it for confluence so there is almost every question answered somewhere out there in the documentation.

Cons

It is a little pricey as and add on for confluence if you are not using it every day or every week. We use it but not as heavily.

The accessible flowchart application designed with ease of use in mind

Helps me create flowcharts to visualize complex processes and relationships

Pros

It's very easy to use. If you can use a word processor, you can use Gliffy. Plus, there is a free version so that if you don't find yourself frequently making flowcharts but occasionally have something that really just needs one to help visualize it, you don't have to be a trained user in expensive software to be able to make a simple flowchart. There are many different styling options, and it has all the basic flowchart options that you need to make a variety of different types.

Cons

I can't really think of anything negative to say about Gliffy, it's a joy to use and I've never really encountered any issues using it.

Simple and quick, Confluence integration, lots of other integrations, but limited

Gliffy is easier to learn than Visio, fairly intuitive and the common functions you need are close to hand (on right click or contextual menu button close to selected item).

Was quicker to draw a medium complexity diagram with boxes and connectors than Visio (or Powerpoint), and the resulting diagram looked good. Good range of available symbols and easy to add your own stencils from a SVG-based artwork (and JPG importing was easy too).
Small native file format, and it is text based (JSON) so it is searchable (and hackable if needed).
But there are limitations, which means it for the most complex or structured diagrams it can't replace Visio, OmniGraffle, or a Architecture tool (and would not replace Autocad or similar either)

I can see this may work better on tablets/touch screens than Visio

No bulleted text/numbered lists
Connectors won't "hoop" over lines, and you can't add additional bends in connectors (there are workarounds--import "hoop" shape or use a UML shape to fake a hoop with multiple lines)
Can't have text less than 9px in size.
Limited import and export options.

But the product is continuously developing.

Pros

Quick
Free versions available
Lots of integrations: Chrome, Google Drive, Google Docs Addin, MS word Addin, Confluence.
Allows sharing of diagrams to multiple collaborators.
Not very expensive

Cons

Free version will make your diagrams public after 15 days.
You have to pay desperately for each integration: e.g. a paid for confluence license won't equate
Visio import has to be paid for.
non-standard file format (JSON instead of GraphML)

We use Gliffy to do online systems documentation.

Pros

I like the Gliffy is easy to use and integrates well with the rest of the Atlassian stack. This allows us to keep track of the documents created and search for them later. The functionality is comparable to the traditional market leader and has a robust set of inbuilt graphic elements.

Cons

I would like the see a data-driven model allowing me to have live diagrams that pull from outside databases.

Convenient but limited

Pros

I use gliffy with Confluence multiple times per week. It is certainly handy to have it built into a collaborative tool like Confluence, but its drawing abilities are limited. It absolutely saves time to have Gliffy as a widget built into Confluence. It is portable (works across any browser).

Cons

Worse than the limits is the performance for larger drawings. Once I've gotten into complex drawing with thousands of objects it gets INCREDIBLY slow. While I've had offers from Atlassian to help, this really is just their software limitations. I've had the problems across three different customer/work environments in which I've used Confluence to document large scale process improvements, flow charts, or network diagrams.

Very handy tool for software architects

I have been using Gliffy Diagram for several years and I have been thoroughly impressed with the cool set of tools and their deployment model. When it comes to putting together software architecture diagrams I do not even think of any other tools these days. Excellent work team. Thank you.

Pros

Ability to be used as an extension within the other document curation tools like Chalk and all within the browser.
Nicely organized set of really good and relevant pre-defined components that really helps quickly drawing an idea into a diagram.

Cons

At times, the components become a little bit shaky that they do not behave exactly as they should. Some times memory consumptions becomes a little too heavy for a browser to handle especially for large diagrams.

Used Gliffy for process documentation

Gliffy let me document processes in an easy to digest way.

Pros

I used Gliffy through Confluence to help document processes. I found that the process flows made a great addition to our requirements documentation. Gliffy was easy to use and came with a lot of preset shapes and options.

Cons

I only experienced one occasional issue with Gliffy. If I was working on a flowchart that had a lot of elements in it sometimes it would be hard to line everything up properly and it would get 'sticky'. This wasn't a consistent issue though and wasn't bad enough that I wouldn't recommend it.
