Geting on board with Cin7

The platform is clearly laid out and fairly easy to navigate. The move to the new Cin7 system has meant a mass migration of a lot of information but has been surprisingly easy to ensure all our stock is reflected and priced correctly in the new platform. The help feature and Cin7 academy have proved invaluable in filling any knowledge gaps, and we have received great assistance in ironing out any issues from the customer support given.

Pros

The onboarding experience has been going very smoothly largely due to the wealth of information provided thru the Cin7 Academy, as well as customer support given for any integration and learning issues through active meeting sessions. Our contact [SENSITIVE CONTENT]
has been most helpful.

Cons

Have yet to run into any major hiccups as only in first month or so of using software, so far no major issues, platform can perform all tasks required as out previous software had.

CIN7 is Great for the Middle Tier company looking to move from small business

CIN7 was easy to implement into our Techstack, When placing orders on CIN7 it was made with ease. But CIN7 only works with small to mid-level businesses. If your company continues to grow, You will grow out of CIN7.

Pros

CIN7 works excellently as a Sales Tool, CRM, and Order Management software when connecting your eCommerce platform. it is excellent for Small businesses looking to get a grip on a more enterprise-level Inventory Management system.

Cons

CIN7 works great for a company not focused on manufacturing and just distribution. Due to CIN7 not being able to Commit stock for Backorders. Also not being able to have a Barcode System is a negative aspect.

Onboarding

[sensitive content hidden] Made our overall experience great. No request was too small or difficult.

Pros

We have been using Cin7 in an existing business. For a few years now, but for this review, it’s a for a new business we have just set up. We were in a time crunch, so on boarding and to be sped up. We had [sensitive content hidden] as our onboarding manager, and he was exceptional. He was very helpful, prepped for our meeetings, and adaptable with all our requests. He made the experience super easy, and smooth from our first contact to complication.

Cons

When I reached out to cin7 at the start, it took close to 7 weeks to get onto someone who could help us. I sent in multiple sales call requests and emails, but no one got back to me. I had to get in contact with someone through the support team rather than the sales team.

CIN7 in the first 6 months

With most software companies such as SAP or Dynamics you would have on-boarding members onsite for a period of time and people on the phone while you transition. I felt that the on-boarding system used by CIN7 is very frustrating, you have to watch several academy videos to teach yourself the system and everything is done by emails that take a while to be answered and zoom calls. If you are stuck and just want to press on you are hindered my the time it takes to get the answers you need or actions in place. That said My on-boarding members are very proactive and knowledgeable and have helped create and manipulate functionality. Overall I am really pleased with the results and the future possibilities now we are using cloud based systems and CIN7. Our day 1 transition to completely move away from our old system went a smooth as can be and by day 2 the business was 95% functioning normally with almost all orders out the door. I take that as a result and look forward to integrating more systems and apps via API in the coming months.

Pros

Moving to a new system is always a worry for a multi currency multi million pound business. I felt the transition from an outdated desktop system was pretty smooth. The import features are excellent and extremely flexible for Customer/Supplier lists, stock,PO's and SO's. The ability to have multiple currency cost pricing on inventory items is excellent. Adding contract and discount pricing to clients on an individual bases works really well. Stock kits or BOM work nicely and the connection to our external accounting package seems solid.

Cons

I feel the WMS side for the warehouse needs more attention. The ability to see more order detail from the order screen is required, the ability to expand an order view from that screen would have been really useful to see what items are on the job as a minimum without having to release to pick to see the order. The packing section does not allow to select multiple orders to the same destination for packing together. Not being able to allocate a supplier bill to multiple PO's without merging them into a single PO.

Reasons for Choosing Cin7 Omni

To become cloud based and more flexible with API integration. The ability to have multi currency costing of products was key as well as serial number and batch tracking.

Switched From

Reasons for Switching to Cin7 Omni

Initially I wanted and all in one ERP so everything was managed under one roof. The costs for most of the systems I looked at were expensive annually but mainly for the on-boarding. CIN7 has an extremely competitive monthly cost and the on-boarding was a fraction of the cost.

Great inventory management system

Pros

- The onboarding for the software was great. We had access to the Cin7 Academy which walked through most steps and our dedicated onboarding specialist [SENSITIVE CONTENT] helped us weekly with any other issues that required more knowledge. No pressure was given to speed up this process and onboarding was overall a very good experience.
- Cin7 has a lot of features that are helpful for a growing business such as contact logs and templates, linking orders to PO's and credit limits.

Cons

- The software is somewhat 'clunky', not as intuitive as other softwares. An update in the overall users interface could help.

- Onboarding is expensive but if you have a great onboarding specialist it is worth it.

- Can be laggy

- Some features could be more fleshed out, especially in the B2B but they are working on that.

Service with onboarding has been great. Questions have been aswered in a prompt manner. Everyone we have spoken to has been very nice and determined to provide an aswer to questions.

Pros

It's early days for us. Cin7 seems like a powerful tool that we look forward to using to it's full potential. We are loving the degree of customisation. Reporting is a step up from other systems. Smart buyer tool is great.

Cons

A solid inventory management system

Cin7 is so far great for our small retail and eCommerce business, it certainly helps with the basics of managing inventory, sales and integrates with accounting. The onboarding experience was helpful despite lots of hiccups to get it up and running fast, but overall think it does a great job at providing the capabilities it does for the price they offer.

Pros

Runs fast, integrations work clean, relatively intuitive once you understand the concepts. Once the foundations are set, then it really does a good job as an EDI at the core of the business.

Cons

Missing some advanced features that are missing for certain manufacturing processes that just aren't there. It can be clunky and there are surprisingly a lot of crashes. An update in the UI would be much needed to reach today's standards. Onboarding is pricey, so best to make the most of it.

Decent software Terrible support and service.

Trying to move our inventory management system to a cloud based one and one that links directly with Xero accounting software.

'Onboarding' process was not finished during the time line that Cin7 dedicated to onboarding. Once this deadline elapsed we've been drowning in bugs that we can't get help with. Usual response is 'we're sorry - someone will get back to you in 48 hours.' no one does then we have to keep chasing them for weeks...

Pros

Powerful reporting functionality. Cloud based so good access.

Cons

Support. We have a bug list a mile long and we can't get anyone from Cin7 to respond. I'm actually reviewing here in the hope that having it in public will prompt Cin7 into getting back to us. We switched to their inventory management system but trying to get help to make the program work to the requirements of our business has been a nightmare. Unless this suits your needs perfectly straight-out-of-the-box I recommend you look elsewhere.

Overall good - relatively steep learning curve but manageable

We used excel spreadsheets to track orders from multiple sales channels (Shopify, email, phone, Instagram, messages etc). We manually entered every single Shopify invoice into Xero AND onto our spreadsheet.
We then manually entered every single tracking number onto our spreadsheet too AND into Shopify.
This was all fine when we had 1 or 2 employees and doing 100 or 200 sales per month.
Now at 1000+ sales per month and growing, we needed a way to automate this process. We looked at Cin7 and 2 other similar software for Inventory management and decided this was the best. We are paying extra to have this custom integrated into our 3PL warehouse so orders will be automatically sent for picking and tracking numbers etc will automatically flow back. Currently we're still a couple of weeks away from the integration being finalised so we are still manually bulk exporting orders to the warehouse. However all Shopify invoices are automatically imported into Cin7 and then flow into Xero.
My advice would be to dedicate 1 (if possible 2) people to the implementation. Do the training vidoes and then when you are ready to 'Go Live' make sure you have 2 or 3 days clear as you will need it to get up to speed and get comfortable.

Pros

To switch Cin7 on was relatively easy. Once we went live with it, it all works quite well, it's just a matter of learning how it differs to the software we used previously.
Support when going live is good, i had pages of questions over several days, all of which have been answered.

Cons

There are still manual processes required when it comes to Xero however the time savings and automation are obivous.

NO General ledger and Not recommended if you have large qty of inventory

4. If you choose to create all items for Cin 7 to integrate with Quickbooks, then you will need to create all items you have once more so that it can sync with Cin7.

5. Reports accuracy. If you run different reports the total sales amount most likely will be different. This is mostly because if you don't select the item from the drop down list you can still save the order while you think it will be calculated. Or if you somehow change the item number then you change it back it can't recognize it.

6. Tax issue. I don't know who's the accounting person with them designed this software but the tax charge can not be charged on line level - it can only be charged on order level. Therefore, if you want to have an invoice include both taxable item and non-taxable service on the order, your customer will be taxed for the service part or you will need to do 2 separate invoices.

7. Customer balance. This is a totally failed function for Cin7 since they don't use general ledger for reports. The "Paid" mark on the sales order page is NOT accurate - I have seen orders with payments shows no mark and orders without payments shows "Paid 100%". The customer's balance under CRM is pretty much a joke because of the customer payments postings recognition issue.

8. Other service issues - customer service, billing, and so on. I caught one order created by their customer service in our system not void no notes no notices.

Overall, very disappointed.

Pros

The user interface is easy to understand and straight forward. Charts are pretty. I think the software will be good for a tiny business that only use Cin 7 for all basic functions - inventory, customer management, etc.

Cons

The biggest issue is NO General Ledger supported within the software so their reports are simply adds and minuses so sometimes the formula can gets messed up. We have switched to another software. I had a few major issues with Cin 7 and we were working with Cin 7 and Quickbooks integration:

1. Timing issue with Cin7. I don't know what time settings in Cin7 is but the time stamps are messed up for some orders.

2. Due to the timing issue, their inventory posting timing are super delayed. The customer service told me that the COGS only will be calculated after 24 hours of the order invoiced AND dispatched. This is also partly caused by no general ledger set up. Your COGS report will NOT be accurate if you dispatch and invoiced the order say - 8p.m. on last day of the month. The COGS report may calculate it on the first day of the following month. This is a huge issue for monthly reporting.

3. Integration. I only experienced Cin 7 with Quickbooks and it was a disaster. I was not participated in the implementation process so I don't know who's idea it was to create only one item in Quickbooks and when import data from Cin 7 to QB it only imports the amount of the total sales of line items to Quickbooks and descriptions but no inventory movement and no record of number of qty of products sold. You must rely on Cin7's reports for this part but the reports. This option should never supported by Cin 7 as their reports are not always accurate.

Response from Cin7

Hi Amy,

Thank you for your feedback, we really appreciate hearing from you. One of our Technical support specialists will get in contact with you to discuss these issues.

Best Account Support EVER

From the onboarding process to our current operations, I have been extremely pleased with the Cin7 Enterprise Support. My On-Boarding specialist walked me through the process quickly and accurately.

I have had 2 account representatives and both are smart and responsive. My current representative, [SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN] is absolutely OUTSTANDING. As long as she is on my account, I will NOT consider moving to other software solutions.

We are a small business and each of us are multitasking. We do not have time to become experts on any one system. We must have effective and efficient customer support and we have that with Cin7.

Pros

The software has all of the functionality we need for a growing retail business.

The best thing about Cin7 is my account representative [SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN]. I have 35 years of experience with installing, managing, and supporting large telecommunications networks; both in the US Army and in the US commercial sector. Without a doubt, [SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN] is the best account representative I have experienced in my career. She is bright, proactive, responsive, professional, and solves challenges rapidly. If I could, I would hire [SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN] join my team in Beaumont, TX. She is hands down the best.

Cons

I would like to see the following automated capabilities.
1. Pre-Order, Back Order, and Split order capabilities. With an automated back order capability, with automated email notifications to customers, we would make more sales.
2. Integrate with BigCommerce's gift wrap option to print "Gift Wrap" on invoices. This will allow our fulfillment team to know when the customer purchases gift wrap.

We also use Cin7 to assist with local manufacturing , production jobs are key to this, we can also buy components overseas and ship to and overseas manufacturer and control all components and roll up landed costs

Cons

Some of Cin7 warehouse functions are not as sophisticated as other software, namely cycle counting and and total location bin transfers.( only be component)
Also a planning and scheduling module would be a welcome addition.
We have had problems with the imbedded exchange rates on purchase orders causing stock valuation errors

WARNING: Outdated, Slow, Terrible... but with lots of integrations

None. regrettably, this product cost me significantly in time and money. It was a significant drain on my business.

Pros

This software integrates with the greatest number of marketplaces and also integrates with 3pl providers

Cons

To put it succinctly:
1- sales rep did not provide all the info I needed:
- onboarding fee, is a robbery when compared to superior alternatives (tradegecko, unleashed) which are free
- what data would be required and in what format, ie a simple data template. in fact the sales rep told me not to worry about my data as the cin7 onboarding team would help me get the data into the correct format - this didn't happen as they repeatedly changed the format that the flat files would be required to be uploaded in. Also, my fault but I didn't insist on a list of what data was required so I hadn't consolidated my data sources.
- Rep insisted that I sign up quickly to avoid any delays in onboarding - this cost me in unusable subscription fees.
2- onboarding was a nightmare and was still incomplete by the time I canceled the service.
- onboarding team kept changing their mind about data.
- cin7 is slow and unintuitive so you need an expert to set it up
3- platform is poor:
- it looks cheaply designed (aesthetics is important when you are using something hours everyday)
- this could be forgiven if it performed great - it doesn't!
- it is slow, outdated, unintuitive,
- the b2b platform is barely functional - it looks like something designed in 2001 and is unable to be integrated with third party analytics tools.
3- customer service is non-existent, promise of callbacks that never occurred, emails not answered.
there are so many better alternatives. Beware!

Warehouse mangement system that has all the features

Generally, this is a very useful system and once you understand how to use it, it is very beneficial. Even with the glitches, I would still recommend it, this product has so many different features, and I believe that you can find a way to run every warehouse, no matter how unique your systems are. This is a system that has so many features and you can use them all or just those that suit your needs. Cin7's onboarding is extremely expensive, but necessary, because setting it up right with someone to guide you is a must.

Pros

The most useful features in Cin7 is the ease of integration with Xero and Woocommerce. It was easy to connect and Xero connected easily. Also the B2B store is Cin7 best feature and easiest application to use and manage and has given me so much time back as no longer have to manually invoice each client.

Cons

This product is on the pricey side and at times Cin7 can be a little glitchy, such as when completing an invoice it does not always transfer to the Xero Dashboard immediately, or the stock transfers on a sales invoice do not happen correctly and it comes up with an error, yet still completes the sales invoice and I then have to go in an manually alter each stock item. Also in the Woo-commerce platform the client names on orders do not always come through correctly, the system always messes these up.

Looked good until we started using it more and finding holes in the features and capabilities

staff are really good, features and function are really lacking or inflexible.

Pros

Inexpensive for a small number of users, reasonably good integration and training process that doesn't take up too much time.

Cons

The list is growing. There are lots of things the system just doesn't do well. Version Control of Products is poor, there is no ability to mark some products as GST-Free, there are very limited template options, you can't "copy" prior orders, if you receive partial payments (eg a deposit) then there is no oprtion to charge credit card fees (you have to wear these, or add a manual line entry). You can't have negative priced products, so if you want to apply discounts and keep track of these (e.g. vouchers or reclaimable govt subsidies) it is impossible. I think it's just not a good all-rounder. Maybe its ideal for selling t-shirts, but we have importing, 3rd party contract manufacture, dropshipping (god, that's painful in Cin7) and wholesaling. Cin7 is so far not up to the task.

If you are planning to buy it, don't do so as a start-up. The implimentation period is very helpful but wasted if you are not at full commercial fuction. If you are already operational and selling, feel free to change if the system suits you, but don't "start" a business with Cin7 becuase you'll drop out of the implimentation service before you find all of the problems.

CIN7 for Wholesale

Cin7 has been great overall with our company. Their team leaders make sure that we are well taken care of and when we require a hand, they are there to help us find a quick and efficient solution.

Pros

Cin7's greatest capability is its ease of use. From the start, our employees are able to have a strong grasp of the system.

Cons

Communication. We use cin7 for all of our business operations. From warehouse management, delivery scheduling, all the way to backend sales. Cin7 must implement a way for its users to communicate and plan activities better.

Response from Cin7

Hi Andres,

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on Cin7! I'm pleased to hear you and your employees have been able to navigate the software efficiently. It's awesome to hear Cin7 has met your business needs and that you've had great support.

Cin7 Review

I can honestly say that CIN7 has changed our business - for the better.

With only 3 staff, and I feel that CIN7 in particular, has made up for almost 1 full time staff member in terms of increased productivity.

The fact CIN7 is so customisable means that we have been able to tailor a "back end" POS and inventory management system that allows for staff (and through our website - customers) to get all the information we/ they need, in the shortest possible time frame.

Being an importer, the ability to allocate and apportion freight and customs charges in NZD directly to USD purchase orders, then import it directly to Xero, has meant I no longer have to manually enter this info and spread it across a shipment in a spreadsheet, then enter it again - manually, to our old POS system. It also means that our costs are very accurate and therefore our GP figures are too.

We have fairly complex components to some of our furniture items, but the CIN7 B.O.M builder allows us to allocate parts to make up a final product, taking away any messy guesswork with costings and stock control.

The support has been Ok, but I feel a bit understaffed at times. They have just started a new support program in August and since then the support has been great so far.

There ARE improvements to be made around the reconciliation between Xero and CIN7/ Shopify Integration/ CRM management etc, but overall a pretty good piece of software.

Pros

- Inventory management
- allocation of landed costs.
- reporting

Cons

- bank reconciliation (area for human error)

Response from Cin7

Hi Chris, thank you for the 4 star overall review! It's great to hear has changed your business for the better. We look forward to the continued support and value you as a customer.

Bug-filled, hidden price increases - look elsewhere

One of the most bug-filled and disappointing software systems we have come across.

We had a significant price increase only 7-month into the subscription, more than 100%. Some would argue it is completely unethical business practice luring a company in long enough to invest enough time so set themselves up only to get an extreme pricing increase...

Was promised Premium Support as compensation for the price hike, managed to negotiate a small price drop but Premium Support was taken off without communicating that to us. Price is now back up where it was plus some.

Promised functionality but appears to have been built by people with little user insight.

Support response time is poor, the support staff we deal with try their best but with a system filled with bugs, it's pretty obvious they are fighting an uphill battle.

Zero compensation for lost data which was only one of the issues with bugs.

Do yourselves a favour and research all inventory systems available thoroughly before committing to CIN7. There are several other systems available with far fewer issues and quality customer service.

This software system is not ready for use.

Pros

You can customise some aspects, though you will pay a fee for any changes.

Cons

So many issues, it's not yet ready for use, there are plenty of bugs.

The large price increases are unjustified when the systems do not run smoothly.

Response from Cin7

Hi Belle,
Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We're sorry to learn that you've had a disappointing experience with Cin7. We are working hard to improve our product and service to make it a better platform for all businesses. We would love to help you with the issues that you've mentioned. One of our managers will be in touch with you to discuss this further and to create a plan of action for you.

Promising features but poorly executed with terrible support

Pros

The features on offer are promising and if they all worked well, the value for money would be fairly good. The implementation charges are reasonable for the level of detail required to get the system up and running.

Cons

The software feels like it is still in beta and we have found quite a number of bugs. Most of the time it's a challenge to even convince their support to take responsibility of the problem and generally the solution is a workaround rather than an actual fix. There are a lot of problems we simply gave up on trying to resolve entirely. There are bugs they fixed that were subsequently reintroduced later on. At the moment their own financial reports don't add up and we can't even complete the essential end of year activities we need to. Over a week has passed with no resolution despite daily follow up, their excuse is that unless we pay them extra to get upgraded support they can't keep up with all the issues they have at the moment!

Response from Cin7

We are sorry to hear you feel that the system has been buggy in the year you have been using Cin7. Upon reviewing your support cases with us it looks like most of these are setup related rather than bugs. A technical support specialist will be in contact with you shortly to investigate which bugs you have experienced.

Premium support gets you faster email responses and phone support, it does not affect the number or type of queries we respond to. If an issue is escalated to the development team, depending on the complexity of the fix required and the outcome of testing, this process can take weeks to ensure the release goes smoothly.

New user excited by level of functionality, quality of platform, and sincerity of help

We are a small business with 6 employees based in Australia and working in the construction supply industry. We sell mainly to trade, via trade credit accounts, but also do some wholesale and retail sales. We have around 500 account customers and 7000 product lines. Due to the size limitation of our site we do a large number of stock turns on many items, so inventory management, ease of generating orders and stock receipting are very important to us. The competitive nature of our industry demands the capability to have multiple discounting methods which are applied at both customer and product (quantity based) levels enabling accurate and consistent pricing to customers.
We have been using another software for over two years with another cloud-based POS/inventory/CRM product and have recently switched to Cin7. In short, I wish we had swapped sooner. Though we have literally only been using Cin7 'live' for three weeks now, the experience is so superior, so 'next level' that it is clear to me we were simply using the wrong package for our business. While we are still learning and growing into the Cin7 package, we are finding that its operation is streamlining our processes, increasing our invoicing accuracy and assisting with our inventory management. Integration has been nearly flawless, with hours saved every week on automatic invoice due date production.
Despite many offers of more involved training, Cin7 is so logically constructed that we taught ourselves, with the aid of available on-line help resources and the occasional email or phone conference with our mentor. Having a dedicated project manager from Cin7 to guide us through the 'onboarding' process was brilliant, saving the usual frustration of explaining the same thing to multiple people in a standard help desk environment. Our manager really took the time to understand how we do business and then show us how our requirements could best be implemented. Staggeringly we had some customization specific to our needs built into the platform in a matter of hours during the onboarding process. The whole task of switching from old to new could not have been any more straightforward.
I look forward to becoming more adept with Cin7 and using what I learn to increase productivity while bettering the interaction between our business and our customers.

Response from Cin7

Hi Omar, thank you for the overall 5 star review! Great to hear you taught yourself how to use Cin7. Awesome to hear it has helped streamline your business process and you're still finding new features that benefit your business. We look forward to the continued support and value you as a customer.
