About CAKE POS

CAKE provides a comprehensive and easy-to-use POS designed specifically for restaurants. The software benefits independent restaurant owners who want to replace their current POS or don’t have a cloud-based system, as well as small to mid-size chains looking to extend the service of the existing POS system. CAKE offers an array of features to simplify restaurant operations and improve efficiency. CAKE's offering includes tools such as CAKE Point of Sale - with which restaurant staff can easily place and modify orders - CAKE Pay, and AI Reporting, which help streamline payment processing and provide actionable insights into business performance. Additionally, CAKE Pop handheld devices and kiosks enhance flexibility in order taking and payment processes, while the Loyalty Rewards Program fosters customer retention. With CAKE's integrated online ordering capabilities and curbside pickup, restaurants can eliminate digital walkaways, send order updates to customers, and avoid pricey commission fees from third party delivery providers. The system also offers hardware components like the Payment Cube and Thermal Printer to support various transactional needs. CAKE’s Payment Cube can accept all forms of payment, including through a customer’s phone with Apple Pay or Google Pay. QR code ordering and payments can also streamline the experience for guests. Restaurants can expand their system by adding tablets for tableside ordering, which can also increase speed of service, improve order accuracy, and elevate average order value by 33%. With 24/7/365 US-based customer support - delivered via call, email, text, or chat - and an average response time of 12 seconds, CAKE POS aims to provide reliable and efficient service. The platform promotes ease of use and integration, making it a valuable tool for restaurant owners looking to enhance both front-of-house and back-of-house operations.

SEEK OTHER OPTION

This is a horrible company. The equipment was missing necessary software when it was taken out of the box. The customer service that was received was bottom of the barrel. Be prepared to be placed on hold for lengthy times and still get no answers and the online support to not reply to your questions.

Pros

There is nothing to like about this POS. Received a brand new system and it didnt even have the software installed that it needed to operate amd tech support could not log in remotely tonfix the issue because of the missing software.

Cons

ALL OF IT. The equipment was faulty when received and the company couldnt fix it.

Response from Mad Mobile

Hi Lucas,

We are so sorry about the frustration and time this issue has caused you. When you open up a brand new, shiny POS system, you want to just plug it in and focus on running your restaurant, not waste time updating the software. Again, apologies.

Last we heard you had been in contact with our Customer Success team, and the software version has been updated and resolved. If that is not the case, please reach back out. Cheers to your future success and thank you so much for your partnership!

Not Easy to Upgrade - Be Prepared for Hours of Installation Time

In general we have always like CAKE. It is a serious pain though whenever we upgrade. Our technical representative, Ayodell was absolutely amazing and patient through our 8 hour ordeal we went through to get our upgraded POS stations installed and working.

Pros

I like the reporting functionality and the ease of use of the system.

Cons

The network setup. The fact that we have to replace perfectly good equipment with new expensive equipment when we upgrade to newer versions. I also do not think it is good business for CAKE to not have any local support. A customer should not have to be responsible for being tech savvy to the level you are required to be in order to install new equipment.

Alternatives Considered

Reasons for Choosing CAKE POS

Reasons for Switching to CAKE POS

Response from Mad Mobile

Thank you for sharing your honest feedback, Jodi. We're thrilled to hear you enjoy CAKE's reporting functionality and ease of use—that’s what we strive for.

We understand your concerns about the network setup and the challenges you faced during the upgrade. While our goal is to make installations as seamless as possible, we're sorry to hear it took longer than expected. Your input helps us refine our processes, and we're actively working to improve our upgrade and support experiences.

We're also glad Ayodell provided exceptional support during your upgrade—that dedication is what our team is all about. Thank you for sticking with CAKE and for trusting us to support your business needs. If you have further concerns, feel free to reach out—we're here to help.

GREAT POS AND CUSTOMER SERVICE

I used Cake at a previous restaurant when I moved the sent to Maliek Walkins in customer service. Great rep for Cake he walked me through a few things and was actually helpful. Didn’t act like he wanted to rush me and explained everything to me.I have used some of the other POS systems this is by far the easiest I have dealt with I did my own menu and installed everything myself.

Pros

I really like being able to input items on the POS.And not having to use my laptop every time I want to run a special or change a price.I really like that you can actually call customer service when you need help and someone actually answers quickly!

Cons

There is much I don’t like about the POS.

Cons

POS technology is behind. Customer Service is very poor.

You can contact me directly or follow the reddit thread regarding Cake POS. I have continued to update my experience with Cake POS and it is bad. Consistently poor experience at every turn and every new challenge of the restaurant.

Pros

It is a simple product but it is not for a table-service restaurant. Best for a simple counter service operation.

Cons

Customer service has been horrible. Bad attitudes, lack of help, and terrible at resolving issues.Tripled charged me for additional POS system.TERRIBLE installation strategy. Self-Installation with no assistance if it doesn't work. WHAT?Fabio blamed ME for the installation not working. It is a simple plug and play but what happens when that doesn't work. They shrug and say it is your fault. Wow. I've had much better experiences with LightSpeed/Upserve and SpotOn at my other restaurants.Avoid this at all costs.

Alternatives Considered

Lightspeed Restaurant, SpotOn, Revel Systems and Toast POS

Reasons for Choosing CAKE POS

Sometimes you make mistakes with your decisions and they have minor impacts. Choosing CAKE POS is a MAJOR negative impact that has resulted in LOST SALES for the restaurant in a tough environment.Anyone can contact me to discuss my experience more. Cake does not care about the customer and has never cared about my negative experiences.

If you don't want features that will help your restaurant grow this is it.

Benefits - very few, its a processing and pos basic.
Issues - many, but do get resolved.
Features - literally almost nothing. you get basic reporting.
We switched to Toast.

Pros

Its useful that this POS offers 3 party features to install, to bad you gotta pay of them.
Reports are easy to understand, what comes in and what your taxes are.
Easy point of sale to use for your staff.

Cons

Alright after 2+ years of using Cake here it is for you guys.

1. On the phone with customer service probably 4 - 6 times a month. This is from reporting / dashboard issues, POS issues.

Reporting issues: about 2 times a month we have to call about some kind of labor reporting issue and takes the engineers around 1 to 4 days to fix. Note - same issue occurs, another day or so for engineers to fix.

Dozens of times we will be on the phone with a customer service rep, and both them and I will be having issues loading the reports to examine them. One time we were literally both waiting over 25 minutes for it to load.

As a restaurant one of the best reports you could have is when the system literally tells you the cost of EVERYTHING.
Ya, you won't be getting this with cake. Sure, you can add the cost of a single item to you (why even have this feature if it doesn't deduct it for you) but it wont deduct it for you at the end of the day. You'll have to do this on your own to figure out what it actually cost you.

Cake takes into account on recommendation that their customers give them, I think and thats at least what they say except their features are almost non-existent. No marketing, No rewards, very basic reporting.

Their hardware is super expensive, our kitchen printer stopped working and they quoted us like $450, I found it on amazon for $115.

Just remember the 2.50% + $.10 a swipe, will actually really be costing you 3.50%. I could go on but I'm limited on characte

I love CAKE!

Too many to list here but software that is easy to understand and follow and make corrections too. It runs our kitchen and food orders as well as serving as an employee time keeping system.

Pros

We purchased our Cake system two years ago after looking at many different systems for our diner after making the decision to update our entire process. The Cake system had everything that we wanted. Over the past two years we've had some issues with our system that very easily have been corrected and some that took a little time to fix. We are just too busy for me to spend countless hours trying to work out an issue and receive minimal or no satisfaction. Out of all the customer service companies we have ever done business with over the last 25 years, the best has been Cake. Hands down. No exception. The technicians are beyond wonderful. Every single technician has stayed with me until the issue at hand has been resolved and has worked with me to fully understand. We have just been updated to the newest software version of Cake and while doing my first online audit of employee timecards I found that I didn't understand how to make a certain correction. The guys at Cake walked me through it late on a Sunday evening and I was able to submit my completed, accurate payroll in time. And I LOVE the new remote access update. It's so easy and helps me keep payroll in line. The only thing I can say is thank you so much for realizing the importance of great customer service! Don't change a thing.

Cons

I wish the ipad minis that we use for mobile table service were a little more efficient and didn't drop the Cake network connection so easily. My staff has trouble always understanding how to reconnect or update as needed and I have to jump in and try to fix whatever they've done.

POS

Overall, we love this product, especially the support we get from the friendly staff. Anytime we have an issues, we call and it gets fixed. We have also been able to troubleshoot and fix items ourselves numerous times. It's an easy system and we recommend it.

Pros

Our customers love their screen. They like that they can see their order. It's easy to read and understand. We love that we can use the system from home on the laptop and not just in the shop. I make changes to the menu mostly from home. I love having the itemized close cash receipt every day. I love all the reports that I get for tracking my business.

Cons

I don't like that all the buttons are the same color. It makes it very difficult to find buttons in a hurry when you have 40 different syrup flavors and 34 different teas. We need colored buttons that we can use as groups, for example, I could make all our sugar free syrups green and all the syrups that start with an A, blue, etc... It helps your eyes to find things quicker. It is really stressful for new employees to find buttons when training and the customer is standing there staring at you. It's better as a trained employee, but it would save us time at the machine when we could be making their order. Colored buttons are highly needed. Also, ever since the last software update that affected us directly, it is harder for me to add new products to the menu and put them in the right place. I can't put my finger on what changed, but i have trouble adding new products under existing categories. They come out as new buttons on the main screen. Not sure how to fix that.

Super user friendly! Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a POS system!

The rep that installed the system and trained us was helpful and informative. The system is easy to use and customer service is excellent. We have had no issues with the system, but if there is something you don't know how to to do- call them and they will walk you through it. Hold times for customer service are short or non-existent. Also, they update the system frequently, so if there is a feature you would like to change or add just submit a suggestion to them. As I said before, they are extremely helpful and accommodating.

Pros

Extremely user friendly. Easy to change user permissions, access reports, and update menu from system, back office, and from any computer or mobile device even offsite. Reporting is clear and easy to use as well.

Cons

No major issues. Easy to access reports- could have added features to make it easier, such as the payroll hourly reporting feature- it would be better if it had an option to click the employee name to see all of the daily hours listed for each instead of having only the timesheets function to see the list. Also, on the item sales- listing the add-ons or upcharges for side options would be extremely helpful- could be a drop down similar to the categories. Otherwise, reporting is great and as easy to use as the rest of the system functions.
